Haynes ve Woody, Mayıs 1994 'de, Los Angeles'daki bir Allman Brothers Band konserinin ardından, bir klüpte davulcu Matt Abts ile bir jam yaptılar. Sonuç o kadar heyecan verici idi ki Gov't Mule adını taktıkları bir trio olarak konserlere ve kayıtlara devam ettiler. Gov't Mule projesi Haynes ve Woody için çok önemli olmaya başladı ve 1997'de ABB'den ayrılıp, tüm zamanlarını Gov't Mule için harcamaya başladılar. Allen Woody, 26 Ağustos 2000'de öldükten sonra, Gov't Mule, kesinlikle hepsi çok usta olan, farklı basçılarla kayıtlarına devam etti. Grubun son kadrosu, basçı Andy Hess ve klavyeci Danny Louis'i de içeriyor. Andy Hess 15 Eylül 2008'de ayrıldı ve yerini Jorgen Carlsson aldı. Gov't Mule'un kökleri Southern Rock'da olsa da 1970'lerin Cream Ve Jimi Hendrix geleneğini de bir "power trio" olarak sürdürmekteler. |

Warren Haynes'in Allman Brothers Band ve Gov't Mule'daki çalışını dinlediğinizde, ilk göz ağrısının gitar olmadığına şaşırabilirsiniz. Müzik yaşamının ilk yıllarında şarkı söylemeyi seçmişti. Gitara başladıktan sonra, kendine model olarak Eric Clapton'ı seçti. 14 yaşında klüplerde sahne almaya çalışan Haynes, Ricochet adlı bir gruba katıldı. 1980'de David Allan Coe'nun dikkatini çekti ve dört yıl boyunca Coe ile turnelere katıldı, albümler kaydetti. Coe ve grubu Atlanta'da Allman Brothers Band'den önce sahne aldığında, Dickey Betts de onlarla beraber çaldı. Haynes, Bu tanışıklığın ardından 1988'de Haynes ile birlikte bazı parçalar besteledi ve bunlar Betts'in solo albümü Pattern Disruptive'de yer aldı. Aynı yıl, Greg Allman'ın Just Before The Bullets Fly adlı solo albümüne de katkıda bulundu. 1989'da ABB tekrar birleştiğinde, bu gruba davet edildi ve besteleri, vokali ve gitarı ile ABB'nin ateşini tekrar yakmayı başardı. 1993'de Tales of Ordinary Madness adlı bir solo albüm yayınlayan Haynes, 1995'de de Gov't Mule projesini başlattı. 1997'de ABB'den ayrılan Warren Haynes, bu yeni projesine odaklanmayı seçti. |
